Hello everyone!
On Saturday the 28th January 2023 we invited the community to join us at Benfield Valley to take part in some winter tree identification.
Using a 'Photo guide to Trees in Winter' from the Field Studies Council (FSC) Kayla
explained how to use the guides and walked us through an example before sending those who joined us off into groups armed with guides and a map of Benfield Valley. The groups were able to plot the trees they found on the map helping us gain a better understanding of the tree species and their distribution within Benfield Valley Nature Reserve.
For some of the youngest members of the group Helen supplied some card with double sided sticky tape so they could collect treasures and stick them to the card as they explored the reserve.
Not only did we learn more about the reserve we were also able to provide the community with a new skill an appreciation for the beauty of trees in winter.
"I didn't realise how much detail there is on the buds."
"I'm going to have to get one of these guides to take on my walks."
Thank you to everyone who came along, we really appreciate all your help and support!
